Psychopsis Mariposa 'Twins'

(Psychopsis papilio x Kalihi)

Another member of the famous "Butterfly Orchid".  Psychopsis Kalihi is a hybrid of Psychp. kramerianum and papilio, so what we have here is a backcross to Psychp. papilio to obtain larger size and longer lasting flowers.  Psychopsis are sequential bloomers, producing one bloom at a time at the tip of a tall flower spike.  Each bloom typically lasts about 3-4 weeks.  The next flower bud sometime forms immediately at the tip of the same flower spike, sometime not until several months later.  The same flower spike can go on blooming like this for SEVERAL YEARS (some say as long as 10 years), so do not cut it off until it actually turns brown all the way down to the base.

'Twins' is a more compact clone with shorter flower spikes. However, it is more vigorous and floriferous than other Mariposa clones, often producing multiple new growths and therefore more flower spikes in the same year.

Well-established plants with 2-3 flower spikes and new growth(s)
